How to measuring the size of a doorway

Here are the usual steps for measuring the size of a doorway:

Depending on the style of the house, garage doors come in a variety of styles, rectangular, square, curved, etc.

1. Prepare tools: Before you start measuring, make sure you have the following tools ready: tape measure, straightedge, pencil and paper.

2. Measure the width of the doorway: Measure the width at the top, center and bottom of the doorway and take the maximum of the three numbers as the measurement of the width of the doorway. This will ensure that the garage door will open and close smoothly in any position.

3. Measure the height of the doorway: Measure the height on both sides and in the center of the doorway, and take the smallest of the three numbers as the measurement of the height of the doorway. Again, this is to ensure that the garage door fits perfectly in the opening vertically.

4. Measure the width of the left and right wall stacks of the garage door opening to a minimum of 150mm.

5. Measure the distance from the top edge of the garage door opening to the roof of the shed or convert the distance from the top edge of the garage door intaglio plate to the roof of the shed, the minimum distance should not be less than 250mm, in order to install the center shaft bar of the garage door, the general requirements of the distance of 300-400mm. The selection of a single-track should not be less than 380mm, and the selection of a double-track should not be less than 250mm.

6. Check whether there are obstacles in the garage door opening, roof, hole in the left and right wall stacks. Shed roof: the main check from the upper edge of the opening to the equivalent of the entire height of the door body of the longitudinal distance of the obstacles, so that the door is not blocked.

a) Door side obstacles In the deep direction of the door running range (door opening height +1100mm), door side obstacles from the side wall distance is greater than or equal to the size of the door stack, need to increase the false door stack. The width of the false door stack should be ≥150mm.

b) Door top obstacle In the depth direction of the door running range (door opening height +1100mm), the distance from the door top obstacle to the roof surface is greater than or equal to the size of the lintel, need to increase the false lintel. The height of false lintel should be ≥250mm.

7. Record measurements: Record all measurements on paper and make sure they are legible. Normally, doorway dimensions are expressed as width x height, e.g. 10 ft x 8 ft.
